Metal in the Desert

We apologize for the extremely long time in our updates, we’re in the midst of changing servers.

Armored Saint has gotten an offer to play the opening slot for the Scorpions in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, July 30 at the Dodge Theater. After much consideration we decided to do it. Mind you, this is only one show and we’re really just doing it for the fun of it. We have been getting lots of emails asking if there is more to this. We have no plans to do any other shows or get together for any writing or recording. For right now we are playing one show only opening for the Scorpions in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, July 30. Doors are at 7 p.m., we’re on at 8 o’clock. We’ll play a cozy 50 minute set and the show is at the Dodge Theater in downtown Phoenix. For more info go to: http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1E003AD77CE93ADA?artistid=736062&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1

Joey Vera has been busy (while taking some time off) and has posted a news update on his site. Please go to www.joeyvera.com for more info on Joey’s world.

Until next time, we hope to see those of you who can come out to the Phoenix show, it should be a blast.

A. Saint

Armored Saint Magazine: Lessons Not Well Learned is chock full of entertainment to get you through the bullshit that seems to be going on in this twisted world. Check it out at your local store or try our online store or metalblade.com

In other stuff: John Bush and the Anthrax boys had a great tour in Japan and Australia of which they brought along Joey Vera to fill in for the recently departed Frank Bello. The band is leaving for a European tour starting on June 5 in Germany and it continues for 6 weeks before a short break in late July before they head back for another 3 weeks back in Europe. Joey Vera will also be joining them for this tour.

Joey has also just returned from recording the new Fates Warning record which is scheduled for a fall release on Metal Blade Records.

And because of his involvement with Anthrax, Joey will not be able to be involved in the recording of the new Seven Witches record. He did contribute to the writing of the record but is unable to complete the recording of the record. Dennis Hayes will be playing bass on the record and the summer dates.

Again, be sure to check out the new DVD and keep yer eyes peeled for more updates here.

Newz for Da Holidaze - One last bit of newz before the end of the year!

The Saint have finished their new DVD entitled "Armored Saint Magazine: Lessons Not Well Learned" and is scheduled for a late Spring release on Metal Blade records.

Directed by Joey Vera, the DVD will include a one hour feature which contains 12 live bootleg videos ranging from the Symbol of Salvation tours (1991) through the Nod to the Old School tours (2002). No surprise who that is though.

Also completed and included in ASM: LNWL, is a music video for the song "Symbol of Salvation" which includes several different live performances of the band from 1991-2002 as well as never seen before footage from the recording studio during the 1990-91 "Symbol" sessions.

There will be several other bonus features which we will release in January. Until then, here is the track listing for ASM: LNWL

1. Pay Dirt
2. Warzone
3. The Truth Always Hurts
4. After Me, The Flood
5. Take a Turn
6. Symbol of Salvation
7. Tainted Past
8. Creepy Feelings
9. Another Day
10. For the Sake
11. Tension
12. Tribal Dance

Summer Recap

Hey all, Sorry for the long delay for an update. It was a very busy and hot summer (the heat makes everything move much slower here in southern California)

Both John and Joey have returned from their summer tours with Anthrax and Fates Warning. Both John and Joey extend a big "Thank You" to all off you who came out to the shows. Anthrax will be going out yet again next month in the US and unfortunately Fates will not be going out with Queensryche's second leg due to scheduling conflicts. Keep your eyes peeled for the Anthrax dates at www.pollstar.com

Currently Joey is mixing a live record for Metal Blade Records of the 20th year anniversary show they put on at the Palace in Hollywood, CA last December. The record will feature live songs by Vehemence, Cattle Decapitation, Engine, Lizzy Borden, Armored Saint and Cannibal Corpse. A live DVD will accompany the live record. A release date has yet to be issued.

Also, The Saint are putting together a brand new DVD (still untitled) which will feature live bootleg videos from the "Symbol of Salvation" tours through the reunion "Revelation" tours. This new DVD which will include several features, will be released sometime in the Spring. We'll let ya know an exact date when we get an official release date.

Metallica Tribute Record #2

Greetings from Gonzo & Phil,

We are continuing to write for the upcoming "Life after Death" Record ...we have increased the focus so this record can be completed sooner then later . However, a Unique opportunity came to our camp ...we were graciously asked by Producer Bob Kulic to do a song on the upcoming, 2nd Metalllica Tribute Record ... We Honorably accepted the opportunity ...We decided to do the Masterful "Eye of the Beholder" ...What a Monster Song ...energetically the goal has been accomplished ....no current release date as of yet, but there are very cool bands & musicians contributing to the final product which will include "the making of" on DVD. Jack Emerick (Vocals) does an amazing rendition , Phil plays his first track handling all the guitar duties , Ray "Geezer" Burke layed down the killer bass part and Gonzo mapped out the drums & pounded them out ...it all sounds very fresh but true to the song, we added a special part to the song which includes Ray's wife Leanna on hand drums (hopefully they won't be buried in the mix so you all can here them) ...We are all very proud of the way the song came out . It was a Pleaseure & Thrill to be included in the making of this record.

Keep your Ears & eyes peeled for this upcoming release & the future "Life After Death" c.d.

Peace, out!

31 May 2003

Congratulations Ray & Leanna!

Well, a bit of news: Ray Burke, bassist for Life After Death is tying the knot with his sweetheart Leanna. He has graciously asked Gonzo, Phil & Jack Emrick, to perform 3 songs at his Wedding on June 7, 2003. The Life After Death recording will continue after the marrige festivities run thier course...More on the Monster "G" Project later...Phil is busy experiencing the wonders of fatherhood...Let's all wish him luck!...Enjoy your Summer!

Tons of News!

The most recent development is a very long awaited "Dream" (pardon the pun) tour.
Queensryche has announced a US co-headline tour with Dream Theater and the special guests are non other than Fates Warning! Bassist Joey Vera will be joining the Fates guys for the much anticipated tour for this summer. The US Prog extravaganza begins in early July and continues through the States for 5 weeks ending on the West coast. All dates are TBA. This is a dream tour for fans of all 3 bands and has been discussed for many years as a "what if" tour. Looks like all your dreams have been answered! Please see Tour page for full schedule.

One of the many bands that Bassist Joey Vera resides in,
Seven Witches, will be playing some select west coast shows in April and May. Beginning in Southern California, the band will be playing in Anaheim at The Galaxy Theater on Wed. April 16.
The West coast run ends in Texas. See Tour dates page for full schedule. Witches will be playing in support of their new record "Passage to the Other Side" out on April 9, 2003 on Noise/Sanctuary records. Supporting Witches on the Southern California shows is San Diego metal heads Cage. Supporting Witches in Texas is old schoolers Omen.

Just before the Witches hit the West coast run, (Seven Witches) guitarist Jack Frost will begin recording his first solo record for Noise records. Joey Vera will be handling the engineering duties along with playing bass on a few songs and the record will also feature none other than our own Gonzo Sandoval handling the drum duties! Also scheduled to appear on the record are David Ellefson (bass,
Megadeth), Mike Duda (bass, WASP), Harry Hess (vocals, Harem Scarem), David Defeis (vocals, Virgin Steel), Steve Braun (vocals, Siloam), Ray Alder (vocals, Fates Warning, Engine).

Singer John Bush is currently wrapping up a European headlining tour with his main squeeze
Anthrax before heading home and getting ready for their American assault. Anthrax will be touring the US with Motorhead beginning May 6, 2003 in support of their new record "We've Come for you All" due also on May 6 on Sanctuary records/US. Please see tour page for full schedule.

Later in May, bassist Joey Vera will be joining (not another one!) the critically acclaimed group
Tribe After Tribe for a short European tour which begins in Austria on May 27, 2003. As some of you maybe remember, Joey was a part of the band in 1997 appearing alongside Jeff Ament (bass/Pearl Jam) and Doug Pinnick (bass/King's X) on the record "Pearls Before Swine". The tour ends with a special appearance at the 20th anniversary festival for Rock Hard Magazine in Dortmund, Germany. The festival is celebrating 20 years of true metal with this 2 day event. Anthrax is also performing the same day as Tribe After Tribe. Please see tour page for full schedule.

Gonzo & Phil continue to record the demos for the forthcoming new
Life After Death record with Ray Burke (Bass) & Jack Emrick (vocals). They are working on song # 5, yet the label is yet to be determined.

Gonzo has been playing weekly at the
Tuesday Night Drum Circle at the Remo Percussion Center in Van Nuys, CA. "It's a discovery I wish I had earlier on in life...better late than never! Playing with the Drum Circle provides stress relief, it's healthy (drums heal), you get to meet new people who love drums & most of all it's a BLAST! I highly recommend Remo Percussion, they are a totally innovative drum company. It rocks to be a part of such an enriching group!"

Gonzo & Joey were able to check out NAMM 2003 this year. Tons of great instruments & inventions were seen & a lot of fun was had by all. Gonzo got a chance & was able to play at the Remo annual drum circle at the end of the day on Sat. 1-18-03. There were 1,200 to 1,400 participants and 5 incredible drum facilitators. The drum circle reached many peaks, one which was when the drum circle was graced with the presence of the one and only Stevie Wonder. He played along and as he was leaving, decided to sing along with the entire drum circle. It was truly a magical, spiritual & inspiring moment. We were all touched by his presence and the power of the drum circle. Gonzo Comments, "I was able to shake Stevie Wonder's hand, which made my evening that much more exciting.
